After a bit of exhuberant driving on track at VIR, (here's a short video clip riding in somebody else's 911, chasing a black Ferrari through the uphill esses and around Oak Tree) I found that there was a loose nut behind the wheel. :)
Both of these pictures were taken with my PDA in relatively low light, so they're not great quality, but you should be able to see the missing nut at the bottome of the torsion plate on the driver's side. You can also see that there's a gap between the torsion plate and the trailing arm. This might be why the tire is rubbing on the fender...
